How to Adopt a Dog at Orphans

Finding your new best friend starts here.

Step 1: Visit the Shelter

Check in at the front desk and meet some dogs. Take your time as you walk through. It’s normal to feel a little overwhelmed at first — our dogs are excited to meet you!

Each kennel has a card with the dog’s name, breed, age, and kennel number.

Step 2: Ask for Details

When you find a dog (or a few!) you’re interested in, head to the front desk with their kennel number.

There, if you haven’t already, you’ll fill out a quick adoption application, and our staff will retrieve the dog for a personal introduction.

Step 3: Meet and Get to Know Them

Let the dog stretch their legs and relax or run off some energy — they’ve been in a kennel and may need time to settle.

Feel free to walk our beautiful, wooded trail as you get acquainted.

Step 4: Ready to Adopt?

Once you’ve found the right fit, check in with your adoption counselor.

All household members will need to meet the dog.

A meet-and-greet with any resident pets may be required — our staff will advise based on the dog’s needs and your situation.

We’ll walk you through the final paperwork and help prepare your new family member for home. Most of the time, your new dog will go home with you right away.
