Meet the Pooches of Orphans of the Storm® Animal Shelter

Orphans of the Storm® Animal Shelter is welcoming the official launch of its affectionately-named "dog blog" on November 10. Meet the Pooches can be found at http://meetthepooches.wordpress.com and was created to introduce the many wonderful dogs available for adoption. Most of the dogs profiled have been at the shelter for over a year and are eager to find a loving home.

Meet the Pooches founder Amy Sawyer has been a dog person her entire life and realized the importance of adopting from animal shelters after interning for a month at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. "There are so many amazing dogs that, for various unfortunate reasons, wind up in shelters. Puppies are adorable, but all puppies grow up to be dogs, and all dogs deserve a happy home," Sawyer said. "Meet the Pooches is here to highlight the dogs that most people walk right past—dogs who are six, seven, even ten years old.">

Every week, Sawyer visits Orphans of the Storm® and spends one-on-one time with two or three dogs to get a good sense of their personalities. In one post, you can learn that Billy the Pointer mix "is a big fan of playing fetch, and isn't at all possessive of the tennis ball. He's even spry enough to jump up and catch the ball in midair!" Meet the Pooches is designed to give potential dog adopters an idea of who they will meet when they visit the shelter themselves.

Orphans of the Storm® is located at 2200 Riverwoods Rd., Riverwoods, IL 60015. They are open from 11am-5pm every day of the week, excluding major holidays. Meet the pooches online, spend time with them at the shelter, and take one (or more!) home!
